ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY

Unity in Action is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization established in 2014. The first Latino-led, grassroots organization focuses on Latinos and other immigrants in Dakota County and Siouxland. Unity in Action seeks to empower, educate, and advocate for all Latinos and immigrants in a way that brings people together, builds partnerships, and strengthens our community. Our purpose is to support Latinos, community members, and local partners in accessing resources to promote just and inclusive communities.

To empower Latinos by promoting worker rights, civic engagement and justice through education, training, and advocacy.

To use education and information to ensure every person and family achieve their maximum potential.

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position is accountable for the overall management and programs of Unity in Action staff. Responsibilities include senior leadership, strategic planning, member services, and fiscal accountability.

 

LOCATION

South Sioux City, Nebraska

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possesses a professional proficiency of oral and written communication in Spanish and English.   

  • Effectively leads staff by recruiting, training, and delegating tasks.

  • Writes and submits grants as well as manages these in compliance with agreed-upon requirements. 

  • Prioritizes relationships with funders and seeks to build new ones.

  • Creates innovative fundraising events.

  • Maintains fiscal accountability in compliance with policies and budget.

  • Oversees the efficiency of organizational programs (Worker Health and Safety, Citizenship, Leadership Development, Advocacy).

  • Acts as a liaison and direct support to the Board of Directors’ governance responsibilities. 

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with local, state, and federal entities.

  • Promotes community awareness using media and public relations methods.

  • Collaborates with other entities to develop effective partnerships. Fosters relationships and communication with partners, community members, local officials, and advocates. 

  • Maintains a working knowledge of trends in the Siouxland community.

  • Creates a culture of trust and respect that encourages honest feedback to cultivate growth and development in the Siouxland community.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

●     Experience working with a Board of Directors.

●     Critical thinking skills and ability to see the big picture.

●     Experience managing staff and respecting different personalities to cultivate collaboration.

●     Financial and grant management experience.

●     Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and continued professional development.

●     Experience or willingness to develop expertise in coalition building and community organizing.

●     Experience in fundraising, building funder relationships, making presentations, writing proposals, overseeing evaluations, and drafting reports.

●     High degree of integrity, creativity, with an innovative spirit 

●     Proficiency with Google suite required (sheets, docs, drive).  

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

●      A college degree in business administration, nonprofit management, related field, or equivalent experience.

●      A demonstrated commitment to inclusiveness and an ability to work with diverse groups, including key community leaders and organizations.

●      Strong interpersonal communication skills including negotiating, coaching, consulting, and influencing others with experience in building

        vision, collaboration, and consensus.

COMPENSATION

Salary based on experience.
